POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the
Carpentry Master Foreman will be responsible for overseeing the work of a large
number of maintenance teams working on carpentry, locksmith, flooring,
cabinetry, and additional contractors involved in building construction and
maintenance work at schools and other Board of Education facilities. The incumbent
will supervise, and coordinate the work of a number of field service personnel and
contractors engaged in carpentry work in buildings,
temporary classroom relocations, remodeling and other related work. The Carpentry
Master Foreman will also be responsible for shop personnel work evaluation
for quantity and quality of production.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Plans, organizes, supervises and coordinates construction
maintenance activities and work of a
large number of employees. Each
employee is typically engaged in the installation and/or maintenance
of carpentry, cabinetry, furniture refinishing, flooring, ceiling, door locks,
and related security device, as well as interior remodeling or small building
construction;
Plans, organizes, supervises and coordinates with other
maintenance master foremen, crews and contractors engaged in
temporary building relocations;
Supervises
subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Maintains a variety of records relative to
work performed as well as to periodically summarize or extract activity reports
from such records; and maintains inventory control, records and time keeping;
Develops
solicitations, procures, and manages contracted projects and services;
Summarizes
or extracts activity reports, and develops and presents clear and concise
documentation;
Performs other related duties as
assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Possess
thorough knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques useful in effecting
full utilization of personnel, equipment and materials available for assigned
projects;
Thorough
knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trades supervised;
Ability
to develop and present ideas clearly and concisely in both oral and/or written
communication;
Experience
maintaining a variety of performance and evaluations records;
Ability
to make accurate materials, time, personnel and equipment estimates for
specific projects as well as gain full utilization of such production factors;
Thorough
knowledge using a work order management system to manage daily operations
including creating usable data for making informed decisions; and
Must
be able to work day, night or weekend hours.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited
college or university in Engineering, Business Administration or related field preferred. Graduation from high school required. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in
building construction and maintenance, and a
minimum of five (5) years’ experience supervising or managing maintenance
operations including carpentry, locksmith, and/or flooring trades.

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
