POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the incumbent of this
position will be directly responsible for the development, implementation and
operation of technology systems that support the delivery of instruction and
the efficient management of central office and support functions.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Plans, develops, directs, coordinates,
and maintains an IT (information
technology) infrastructure, architecture, and program that supports the Board
of Education and Superintendent's commitment to using IT effectively
and efficiently in an integrated manner for both instructional and
administrative functions; directs the daily operation of teams and units
reporting to his/her office to assure efficient implementation;
Provides technology vision and
leadership for developing and implementing IT initiatives supporting school
system goals with emphasis on integrating technology-based teaching and
learning in all classrooms;
Prepares the IT portions of the school
system's operating IT initiatives with emphasis on integrating technology-based
teaching and learning in all classrooms;
Provides a leadership role in improving
the school system's business processes and IT infrastructures to achieve a more
productive, efficient, and valuable use of information and technology-based
instructional and administrative investments within the system;
Provides technical oversight and
instituting controls for information technology contractual services;
Institutes quality controls such as a
system of check and balances with contractors, consultants and others who share
in the process of IT development within the school system;
Performs the day-to-day operational
aspects, including ensuring that information technology systems are fully
operational and integrated where appropriate; overseeing IT purchases,
implementation, and various related services including information security;
Advises the Superintendent of Schools on information
technology matters; and
Serves as an advocate and agent of
change within the school district and works with divisions, departments, and
offices to assist them in applying technology to their respective areas of
responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Substantive general experience which
provides a good basic knowledge of the principles of organization, management,
and administration;
Demonstrated ability to analyze and
decide among alternative solutions to current and anticipated IT needs, in
light of the financially limited resources, and the need to acquire systems
that can be put into operation quickly and efficiently;
Ability to communicate orally and in
writing;
Ability to direct, coordinate, train,
and integrate the work of a staff of professional, technical, and clerical
personnel;
Ability to interact and establish
interpersonal relationships with people at all levels; and
Ability to represent the Superintendent on information technology matters.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's
degree required, Master's degree preferred, with emphasis on Computer
Engineering, Computer Systems Development, Network Administration or a related
field with experience in the area of technology application, in either an
educational or private sector setting; or any equivalent combination of
experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and
abilities.

Developing
policy for the organizational unit; overseeing and providing guidance to staff.
