POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief of School Support and
Leadership, the Director of Family and Community Outreach establishes a
comprehensive vision for family, community, and business engagement. The
incumbent of this position oversees the development, design, and implementation
of short- and long-term family, community, and business engagement strategies
that are aligned with the PGCPS strategic plan and Board of Education policies.
The Director of Family and Community Outreach plans and manages strategic
partnerships between PGCPS and businesses, government agencies, higher
education institutions, and community organizations to provide families and
students with the supports needed to be college and career ready, and develops
partnerships with the business community to increase alignment between the K-12
experience and careers.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Plans, develops, and coordinates
parent, community, and business outreach activities and programs that support
improved student learning and academic achievement;
Develops business, higher education,
and community partnerships;
Supports the efforts of schools to
develop and maintain successful strategic partnerships with businesses and
community organizations;
Maintains relationships with higher
education, government agencies, and other groups and individuals that impact
schools and families;
Implements programs to foster and
maintain collaboration among various parent groups, community members, school
and system staff;
Facilitates the school system’s
commitment to parental involvement programs that support educational equity
initiatives;
Serves as a resource to PGCPS offices
and departments as well as external organizations with the development of
programs and services to support students and families;
Assists parents, school staff, and
community organization members with the development of effective programs to
improve parental and community involvement to assist students in achieving high
academic standards;
Designs and develops training models
for parent education and parent leadership on various issues;
Collects data and prepares responses
to requests for information. Represents the Superintendent on task
forces and committees;
Designs and directs plans for
expanding partnership programs to garner additional corporate input and
resources and targets new partners based on district and school needs;
Directs the planning and
implementation of parent engagement and community programs and services that
promote family support of children’s learning and development and build the
capacity of schools to support students and families;
Directs the development of a systemic
outreach strategy for engagement with traditionally underrepresented and
emergent communities;
Develops and implements strategies
for improving interagency collaboration among federal, state, county, public, private,
and volunteer agencies;
Trains and supports parent outreach
coordinators at local schools; and
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Minimum five (5) years of
supervisory/administrative/leadership experience in education, business,
corporate, nonprofit, or public administration;
Experience in community organizing
and advocacy;
Experience building business
partnerships and securing resources;
Successful experience in directing,
supervising, and evaluating staff;
Experience in program development and
implementation
Demonstrated leadership and broad
experience working effectively with diverse staff, students, parents, and the
community; and
Other combinations of applicable
education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in
education, public administration, nonprofit management, business, or other
relevant field required. Doctoral degree is desirable.

Oversees
and provides guidance and direction to the unit staff.
