POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief of
School Support and Leadership, the Director – Community Schools will be
responsible for the development, design and implementation of an operational
framework for community schools within PGCPS. The framework will further
outline specific timelines, processes for monitoring and evaluating, and developing
collaborative structures to involve PGCPS families, students and staff. The incumbent of this position will work
closely with schools that are implementing or wish to implement the community
schools model and will coordinate support across systemic departments. The Director
will solidify partnerships, enhance communication practices and optimize the
use of internal and external resources to reduce barriers to learning and
create enriching learning opportunities for PGCPS students.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Provides vision, leadership and oversight in planning,
implementing and evaluating the PGCPS Community School initiative;
Develops
systems and structures for ongoing communication with internal and external
partners to ensure the provision of student success in thriving communities;
Serves as
chair of the Community Schools Steering Committee and facilitates strong
collaboration with district, county, community and other representatives on the
Steering Committee
Facilitates
processes quarterly to monitor student/school performance data, attendance,
parental involvement and other factors;
Facilitates
and develops relationships between school sites and district departments to
support efficiency of academic and learning supports, services and resources to
school sites and community partners to include the Office of Teaching and
Learning and the Offices of Communication, Parental Engagement and Title 1;
Works
collaboratively and participates in school improvement processes under the
federal Every Student Succeeds Act;
Works
with external and internal evaluators and provides regular reports to district
leadership and the Board of Education as required;
Serves as
point person for agencies and programs for partnership in providing wrap around
services for students and families;
Conducts
site visits to schools weekly;
Participates
in professional development and learning opportunities
Serves as
team member to the PGCPS Every Student Succeeds planning/support group;
Designs
and facilitates regular professional learning experiences around the community
schools strategy for coordinators and any other school staff that wish to
participate; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Prince
George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) policies, regulations, and procedures;
Considerable knowledge of public school administration;
demonstrated leadership and administrative competency;
Knowledge of current trends and issues related to interagency
services;
Ability to plan, administer, coordinate and evaluate community
programs;
Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data relative to
student learning;
Ability
to use computer technology in an administrative and educational setting;
Possess
effective organizational and programmatic problem solving skills;
Excellent
human relations, supervisory and interpersonal skills; and
Excellent
oral and written communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s
degree from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of five (5)
years instructional experience and three (3) years of increasingly responsible
experience in the fields of administration or curriculum and instruction.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced
Professional Certificate with Administrator I or Administrator II Certification
preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees and provides guidance and
directions to the unit staff.
