POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the Senior Advisor will serve as a strategic advisor to the Superintendent on a variety of critical topics impacting PGCPS.  The incumbent of this position will serve as a member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership team and will advise and work closely with other members of the executive leadership team.  The Senior Advisor may be tasked with leading and supporting strategic projects identified as priority initiatives.  The Senior Advisor will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools and may serve in an acting capacity during the transition or absence of key leadership positions, as directed by the Superintendent.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Advises the Superintendent of Schools on policy, strategy, advocacy and operational matters;

Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership team and participates in executive leadership team meetings;

Collaborates with the executive leadership team to design and implement short and long term priorities and initiatives for the Superintendent;

Supports the Superintendent through leading strategic initiatives and providing project management;

Advises and makes recommendations in regards to procedures and strategies relating to the efficient delivery of services and furthering the goals of the school system;

Collaborates with the Superintendent and members of the executive leadership team on problem solving key issues and proactively seeking resolutions;

Serves in the absence of leadership to provide additional capacity as needed and ensure that core services continue to be provided;

Executes the work of the Superintendent’s office with fidelity and confidentiality in alignment with the vision and goals of the school system; and 

Serves as the Superintendent’s designee in his/her absence, at various meetings, conferences, and functions as needed and required.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Thorough knowledge of the Public School Laws of Maryland, the bylaws of the State Board of Education, and the policies of the Board of Education of Prince George’s County;

Strong analytical skills; able to deconstruct complex educational policies into clear and actionable initiatives and strategies;

Considerable experience in K-12 education systems, serving in increasingly responsible positions;

Demonstrated skills in leadership, interpersonal communication and organizational management required;

Proven ability to independently identify strategic areas of opportunity, collect data, assess results, draw valid conclusions and present alternative solutions;

Excellent ability to think and act both strategically and tactically; a decision-maker and problem-solver with sound judgment;

Superior ability to build collegial relationships and collaborate with senior leadership, peers, and staff at all levels; and

Thorough understanding of organizational structure with direct experience in affecting systemic change.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Master’s degree required from an accredited college or university with course work in educational administration, education policy, public administration or related field; Doctorate preferred.  A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience related to K-12 education administration and/or education policy issues.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
