POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Stock Control Manager actively participates in the planning, coordinating and management
of a centralized inventory management system.
An employee in this class, under general supervision, has the continuing
responsibility of developing improvements in a centralized inventory management
system and the direct responsibility to supervise the overall operations of
materials control. Performs
administrative tasks that are imposed by a centralized inventory management
system. In addition, an employee in this
class acts in the absence of the Supervisor of Supply Services.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Participates
in the formulation of plans and programs;
Supervises
the daily administration of the Stock Control Branch which includes the
administrative function of shop stores operations;
Establishes
and maintains records required to adequately support supply operations;
Insures
prompt processing of customer requisitions, receiving documentation,
notification of discrepancies in shipment and disposal of excess materials;
Establishes
stock levels and ensures they are maintained current by reviewing inventory
control data, and that requirements for the replenishment of stock are
submitted on a timely basis;
Maintains
daily contact with the central and satellite warehouses and provides technical
assistance as required. Routinely visits
all storage sites to visually inspect stock on hand relative to proper rotation
and packaging;
Maintains
liaison with the Warehouse/Distribution Manager with regard to the status of
requisitions and shipments, discrepancies in stock levels, performance of spot
or cyclical inventories, and other activities affecting stock control;
Prepares
and maintains supply catalogs current and implements new policies, procedures,
and supply management programs;
Prepares
and submits management reports and statistical data as required; initiatives
and/or replies to correspondence concerning supply matters;
Develops,
implements, supervises and maintains a current and adequate training program in
order to instruct clerical personnel in procedural operations of their
positions; and
Keeps
the Assistant for Supply appraised of problems encountered with stock
replenishment for critical items, unresolved program problems with data
processing and personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Considerable
experience in direct management of a comparable supply management operation as
an Assistant Manager or Chief Stock Records Clerk;
Thorough
knowledge of Supply Management to include stock control and accountability,
warehousing and distribution;
Thorough
knowledge of system design for proper accountability, storage of stock, and
traffic movement;
Some
knowledge of data process equipment and programming;
Ability
to develop plans and systems for stock control;
Ability
to write policy and procedure;
Ability
to train and supervise staff;
Ability
to coordinate plans and systems with data processing and financial offices; and
Good
physical condition.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of standard High School coursework, preferably
supplemented by college-level courses in a related field or, any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May
oversee staff and assume responsibility for operations in the absence of the Supervisor of Supply Services.
