POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Supervisor – Web Services will manage Web Services and perform duties essential to the overall daily support of the Office of Communications.  The incumbent in this class has responsibility for a wide variety of communications projects and assists with specialized public and employee communication activities through the school system’s website.  This position will oversee the operation and management of all internal and external communications through the school system’s website and the intranet website used by schools and offices.  Work involves considerable knowledge of the school system’s organization, policies, regulations, and an ability to exercise tact and sound judgment.  

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Oversees a wide variety of internal and external communication projects through the school system’s website;

Supervises office staff by providing directions, guidelines, assigning work appropriately and tracking attendance;

Manages internal school system communications through the intranet website used by schools and offices;

Collaborates with the Division of Information Technology regarding the incorporation of new technology for the delivery of content and resources on the school system’s website;

Ensures that information complies with any applicable federal, state, and county government mandates;

Responsible for maintaining the Office of Communications’ webpage and electronic information;

Assists in public relations efforts to promote PGCPS in the marketplace; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Considerable knowledge in web site design and web page construction using HTML, XML and CSS;

Considerable knowledge in the use of web and graphic editing software including Adobe Suite of products;

Demonstrated experience in the application of web technology in all facets of the educational setting;

Extensive knowledge of web usability guidelines and Section 503 compliance rules;

Knowledge of dynamic web application creation using ASPX, C# and SQL Server preferred;

Knowledge of public education, news media, coordinating and implementing public outreach activities, public relations campaigns and programs or similar activities;

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly concisely and with technical accuracy;

Effective planning and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and meeting deadlines; and

Effective communication (oral and written) as well as human relations skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Instructional Technology or related field, with at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience, five (5) of which are related to web site editing software and using the Web as a promotion and marketing tool. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Master’s degree preferred.
