POSITION SUMMARY:


  An employee in this class operates and maintains a wide variety of equipment used in television production programs for Prince George’s County Public Schools. Assists in the technical operation of all television systems at the Suitland complex. Works extensively with the instructional staff and students in the planning, staging and execution of performance productions; assists in the supervision of technical crews. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Principal.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Maintains and operates a wide variety of equipment normally used in television production i.e., television cameras, time base correctors, character generators, special effects generators, on-line and off-line editing systems, etc.;

Operates and maintains audio and video duplication equipment;

Coordinates duplication and distribution of video and audio tape;

Utilizes and maintains current videotape library;

Coordinates operation of the “on-air” system, including minor maintenance of equipment and technical assistance in program preparation;

Coordinates operation of field production equipment, including storage and routine maintenance of equipment;

Assists as required in the set-up and teardown of set construction, studio lighting;

Maintains production supplies, such as lamps for studio lights, blank video and audio tape stock, etc.; and

Performs other related duties as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Good knowledge of the methods and principles necessary to operate and maintain television equipment;

Good knowledge of the properties and characteristics of television equipment;

Ability to make adjustments necessary to obtain high quality sound and picture during taping and replay of tape;

Ability to detect and remove or repair defective portions of videotapes;

Skill in operation and maintenance of television machines and equipment;

Technical aptitude; and

Must be in good physical condition.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Some experience in electronics, maintenance and repair and graduation from a standard high school course, preferably supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
