POSITION SUMMARY:


  The teacher provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques, which meet the needs of all students. The teacher provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students. This position monitors and evaluates student performance, develops and implements plans to improve student performance, and maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Establishing clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan;

Planning and preparing lessons, assignments, instructional materials;

Establishing learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development;

Preparing, administering and correcting evaluations and assessments, and recording results;

Selecting and using appropriate instructional strategies such as lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching aids to present subject matter to students;

Evaluating student progress using appropriate assessment techniques;

Maintaining order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and taking all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;

Creating a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enabling each student to achieve learning objectives;

Counseling pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise;

Conferring with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students;

Arranging and participating in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary;

Maintaining accurate and complete records as required by law, Board policy and Administrative Regulations;

Monitoring appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities;

Attending and actively participating in staff/facility meetings and providing input regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives and methods;

Improving skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections; and

Planning and supervising purposeful assignments for paraprofessional educators, student teachers, and volunteers.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Ability to work effectively with Principals in order to implement and monitor programs;

Demonstrated leadership experiences in assessing needs and program implementation;

Excellent human relations skills; and

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

High School diploma and five (5) years of trade experience; an Associate’s Degree (and three (3) years of trade experience or a Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of trade experience; two – five years of verified satisfactory occupational experience within the most recent ten (10) years in the trade required; at least one (1) year of trade experience must include full-time continuous experience; completion of verification of and approval of an occupational experience resume.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Eligible for a Maryland Conditional Teaching Certificate; all new Trades and Industry Teachers may be required to pass the PRAXIS I exams for full certification.


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
