POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Transportation Communications Technician
II will be responsible for providing technical support and guidance in the
overseeing and monitoring of various technological devices used within the Transportation
Communications Center. The incumbent of
this position will assist with coordinating the operations of the Transportation
Communications Center to include scheduling and assigning work, assist in
developing new procedures and will provide oversight and training to temporary
customer service/call center employees. The Transportation Communications Technician
II must exercise independent judgment and administrative discretion in
performing and monitoring the duties and responsibilities associated with the
effective and efficient operations of the Transportation Communications Center.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Monitors
various technological devices used within the
department, such as the Global Positioning System(GPS), school bus surveillance,
school bus radio and cameras;
Assists
in developing and implementing the processes and procedures associated with the
effective and efficient operations of the Transportation Communications Center;
Maintains
Transportation Communications Center schedule and plans, schedules and assigns
personnel to specific assignments; assigns detailed daily tasks related to the effective and efficient operations of the
Transportation Communications Center;
Utilizes software programs and technology applications (i.e.,
Bus Patrol, Stop Finder, Transportation Resolution System, Zonar, Blackboard,
YellowBus) to track and respond to customer inquiries and complaints,
communicate with constituents, identify challenges and concerns, data
gathering, reporting and problem solving;
Performs troubleshooting to identify hardware, software and
telecommunication issues and notifies appropriate vendor or department
personnel when necessary; compiles data on communications systems, evaluates and makes
recommendations to update/change systems;
Receives and responds
to inquiries and screens those, which can be handled by specific transportation
employees or offices, and tactfully refers them as appropriate;
Provides oversight and guidance to temporary customer
service/call center employees;
Acts as an intermediary for transportaton in contact with
schools, security and central office personnel, parents, the community and
government agencies; reports immediately to the appropriate supervisor any
situations which require assistance to resolve;
Develops and updates communication protocol procedures, standard
operating procedures and handbooks; provides related training for temporary
customer service/call center employees;
Explains
and interprets administrative decisions, directions/instructions and policies
to others; answers and resolves varied inquiries and complaints; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Solid knowledge of Motor Vehicle Laws, regulations of the
State Board of Education, and knowledge of the county road system;
Considerable knowledge of school bus transportaton operations
and vehicle and student tracking technologies;
Thorough knowledge of principles and procedures used in the
operation of computer and peripheral equipment; skilled in Microsoft Office products and Google Docs;
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to
work in diverse settings with diverse stakeholders;
Demonstrated leadership and team management qualities; and
Strong organizational skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED
required; Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in business
administration, communications or a related field preferred. A minimum of four (4)
years of experience in communications, fleet management, radio
dispatching or a related field required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
None Required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory
responsibilities; however, provides guidance and oversight to Transportation
Communications Center personnel.
