POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Vehicle Tracking System Operator
will be responsible for maintaining the system’s database for the Zonar GPS tracking
system used by the Department of Transportation to monitor vehicles, drivers
and attendants.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Operates Zonar system, geographical positioning
system (GPS), which entails monitoring and maintaining the system’s database of
vehicles, drivers and attendants;
Enters and maintains landmark information in
database for location and identification of buses and their destinations, such
as schools;
Provides on-demand detailed reports of vehicle
locations and times from the GPS database;
Gathers data to develop improvement plans for
Transfinder school bus routing system;
Acts as liaison for the Stop Finder parent
application;
Acts as liaison to emergency entities such as
the local police department and emergency medical services units during crisis
events such as accidents by vehicles;
Acts as liaison to bus lots and Central Garage
regarding location information of school buses and other participating Board
vehicles;
Maintains rosters of students on buses and
assists Radio Dispatchers as needed; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of the Prince George’s County
road system;
Some knowledge of the operation and
scheduling of school buses desired;
Knowledge of computerized data
management systems such as Microsoft Access desired;
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft
Office Products;
Ability to operate a computer with speed
and accuracy;
Ability to work effectively with
constant interruptions and meet scheduled time lines;
Ability to treat information, data and
records confidentially;
Ability to communicate effectively both
orally and in writing;
Good interpersonal skills using tact,
patience and courtesy;
Excellent telephone and on-the-air
presence required; and
Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate with one to three years of experience
and or training in the maintenance of computer data information in a school or
fleet management field required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
