POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under general supervision, performs a variety of responsible tasks and exercises some supervisory responsibilities in receiving, storing, order packing, packing and delivering of supplies, materials, equipment and mail. An employee in this class acts as a working supervisor and assists in coordinating either warehousing or shipping activities, or a combination of both. The work is performed in accordance with established policies, procedures and work methods. This class is distinguished by the fact that a degree of responsibility is involved for the operation of a segment of supply operations.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Receives, inspects, unpacks and stores property, making sure that it is properly cared for while in storage;

Organizes, assigns and participates in the work involved in filling and packing of warehouse orders; assigns requisitions to order fillers; insures that orders include correct items, quantities, and that orders are properly packed;

Oversees the leading and departure of delivery trucks;

Checks completed work; sees that equipment and labor are in balance; assists in the training of employees by providing on-the-job instruction in established routines and requirements;

Assures that proper safety precautions are observed in materials handling activities;

Operates materials handling equipment;

Drives tractor trailer trucks;

Participates in periodic inventories to reconcile physical inventory with inventory records;

Recommends change in procedures and methods;

Recommends re-warehousing of items in stock;

Participates in salvage and surplus disposal activities;

Sees that storage areas and property are kept in a clean, orderly and serviceable condition; and

Performs a variety of other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Knowledge of warehousing methods and practices;

Ability to assume responsibility for the supervision of employees and maintaining a storage site(s);

Ability to check parts, supplies and equipment;

Ability to carry out oral and written communications;

Ability to operate office machines and equipment;

Ability to make mathematical computation with accuracy;

Knowledge of stock control procedures and ability to operate remote terminal equipment in maintaining records of stock received, issued and on-hand;

Ability and appropriate license to operate materials handling equipment, passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and cargo vans;

Ability to follow strict schedule when assigned delivery duties;

Ability to keep accurate records; and

Must be in good physical condition to permit handling the items kept in stock.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED, with experience and training which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License (Class B) with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
