POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Supervisor - Web
Services Supervisor, the Web Specialist assists in the implementation, design,
and maintenance of school and office web sites for the Prince George’s County
School System (PGCPS). The incumbent will participate in the development of
various web applications as required. Work includes assisting in overseeing the
operation and management of the public web site; programming web templates;
training web content editors; analyzing web data; as well as supporting the
various initiatives of the school system through online media. Success of work is measured in terms of
effectiveness in accomplishing objectives.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Meets
with department managers to determine functions of, and customers for, website;
Assists
in the operation and maintenance of the school system’s web site, including
programming, database management and troubleshooting;
Assists
in the management of the school and offices websites;
Conducts
training for new and veteran webmasters on current and new web publishing
technologies;
Designs
and implements new website designs;
Answers
questions from website users and serve as an advocate for the web;
Researches
new technologies and equipment;
Writes,
edits, and designs content for the Web (i.e. graphic files, web-based
applications, interactive features, etc.);
Ensures
that PGCPS website complies with applicable federal, state, county government
mandates;
Functions
under the direction of PGCPS-approved policies and practices of web
development; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Considerable
experience in website design and programming;
Considerable
knowledge in website design, web page construction HTML programming, and
website management;
Considerable
knowledge in the use of web and graphic editing software including Adobe
Creative Suite;
Demonstrated
knowledge in the creation of dynamic web site applications using
Ektron/EpiServer Content Management System, SQL Server, and Visual Studio;
Demonstrated
experience in the application of web technology in all facets of the
educational setting;
Skill
in writing web applications to include the following programming languages:
VB.NET, C#.NET, CSS, JS, HTML5, and XML;
Knowledge
of SEO; Google Search and Google Analytics;
Ability
to evaluate the appropriateness of new technology trends;
Experience
in promotion, marketing, graphic design, or advertising; and
Excellent
written and oral communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s
Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Information Technology,
Instructional Technology, Communications or Business-related field; or a
combination of education and related experience.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
