POSITION SUMMARY: The Warehouse Manager performs logistical work directly involved with the coordination and supervision of a wide range of activities related to a centralized and satellite warehousing and distribution system. An employee in this class is responsible for planning and supervising all elements of the warehousing and distribution system. This work involves the supervision of all warehousing and distribution personnel and is performed under the direction of the Supervisor of Supply Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Directing activities and personnel involved in the receipt,
checking, storage, issue, security, disposal and distribution of a wide range
of supplies, repair parts, materials of instruction and equipment; Insuring the best use of labor, equipment and facilities;
explaining and ensuring that established policies and procedures are carried
out; reviewing work in progress; evaluating employee performance; insuring
employees receive proper training in warehousing and distribution operations
and that safety precautions are observed; Performing necessary coordination with all elements of supply
operations to effectively accomplish the objectives of management; contacting
customers, vendors and commercial carriers frequently; Developing and evaluating internal reporting systems for storage
and distribution operations; developing and implementing new or revised methods
to improve supply support or suggest revisions to existing or new procedures; Implementing the applications of computerized services to
storage and distribution operations; Exercising independent judgment to shift personnel and equipment
to meet fluctuation during peak work periods or emergency situations; Inspecting all covered and open storage facilities, materials
handling equipment, storage aids and
distribution of motor vehicles; instituting corrective actions as
required; Developing and maintaining warehouse planographs and locator
system; maintaining records and submits reports as required; and Performing related work as
assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Thorough knowledge of methods and practices involved in the
efficient operation of storage and distribution systems; Ability to direct the activities of a large number of
subordinate personnel; Ability to develop, coordinate and implement an effective
warehousing and distribution program; and Must be in good physical condition.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED with extensive and progressive experience in warehousing and distribution systems. Considerable supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License (Class A) with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. (See Prince George’s County Public Schools Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision of warehouse employees is required.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
