POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs routine manual and clerical work in receiving, storing and issuing supplies, materials and equipment; assignments may involve operation of materials handling equipment and/or trucks. Positions in this class are located in a storage facility containing a wide variety of items in bins and/or bulk storage. The work requires continuous walking, lifting, and moving of property by hand and with the aid of materials handling equipment. The primary responsibilities are directly related to receipt, storage and issue activities; exercising some judgment in verifying, interpreting and checking entries and transactions to the Inventory Record Card; ability to use reference and cross-reference publications; however, other duties may be required such as participating in inventories, operating gas or electric powered materials handling equipment, and operating passenger vehicles, pick-up trucks and vans in connection with pick-up and delivery activities. Assignments include incidental use of a typewriter and other office machines. Supervision is received from an employee of higher salary level and work is checked for accuracy and compliance with prescribed requirements and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Receive
property, checks against appropriate documents, notes and reports any
discrepancies in physical count, identity or condition; Unpacks
and stores property in proper location and manner in accordance with
established routines and methods; Rearranges
or relocates stock as directed to accommodate changing needs and requirements; Fills
orders for supported activities by selecting and assembling designated items
from stock; Maintains
inventory control over all items in an assigned group of commodities; Reviews
and edits requisitions; follows up with customer to clarify errors; performs
research and cross-referencing service when required for proper item
identification and/or application; appropriately annotates and returns
requisitions which have not been validated or need extensive correction and/or
identifying information; Maintains
stock records of items received and issued, prepares orders for out-of-stock
items, reviews back orders and prepares follow up to vendors or items overdue;
release back orders for issue upon receipt of materials; Periodically
checks stock records to review validity of reorder levels based on usage
experience; recalculates reorder point as required; Maintains
and extracts data for reports; distributes copies of documents to appropriate
locations; Keeps
storage areas and property in clean, orderly and serviceable condition; May
perform any of the following duties as assigned; When
properly qualified and licensed, operates materials handling equipment or
drives passenger, pickup trucks and vans (when assigned to delivery duties
employees are required to follow a strict daily schedule and have delivery form
signed by authorized person); Participates
in making periodic and special inventories; Makes
simple arithmetical calculations by hand or machine; Loads
and unloads supplies, materials and equipment; Prepares
property for transport by checking for correct quantities, item identification,
packing, etc.; and Performs other clerical and manual tasks as
directed.
QUALIFICATIONS Some
familiarity with office and warehousing methods and practices; Ability
to count and check parts, supplies and equipment; Ability
to carry out oral or written instructions; Ability
to keep accurate records; Sufficient
physical strength to permit handling the items kept in stock; and Must
be in good physical condition.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate with some experience in warehousing, storekeeping, automotive parts room or tool room maintenance, including some clerical work, use of reference publications; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle License with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class "B" with endorsements "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus) required or the ability to obtain within the probationary period for new employees or within 6 months of obtaining the position for current PGCPS employees; CDL Class "A" with "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus and Air Brake) preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications are strongly encouraged.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
