POSITION SUMMARY: The Dual Language Teacher Specialist is responsible for assisting school-based staff in referral and assessment of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse/Limited English Proficient (CLD/LEP) students who may require special education instruction and/or related services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work
collaboratively with all members of Dual Language Assessment Team (DLAT); Assist
school personnel in making appropriate referrals to the DLAT; Review
records of student referred to the DLAT; Assist
school-based IEP teams by: Administering
screenings and educational assessments in English and Spanish; Interpret results of
assessments to parents, school teams and other members of DLAT; Articulate special
education regulations, policies and procedures to parents; Respond effectively
to parent concerns and questions; and Participate in school
team meetings, interpret results and finalize program/placement recommendations. Maintain and oversee
all aspects of the identified program and/or related service; and Other
duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual
English/Spanish; Knowledgeable
about different types of Special Education assessments and how to interpret; Experience
with the unique challenges involved in the assessment of culturally and
linguistically diverse exceptional student; Experience
working cooperatively with professionals in related disciplines; and
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in the field of Special Education or related services.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Holds or is eligible for Special Education Certification issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
