POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent - Supporting Services, the Director plans, directs and administers the activities of the Department of Building Services for the most effective use of custodial services, personnel and materials. Work includes directing and administering the school facility use program within the confines of Board of Education policy. Responsibilities include assessing the needs of the unit, developing an operational framework for the unit, developing a budget based on analysis of needs, and implementing the process and procedures for evaluating programs and personnel in the unit. Special assignments are received through conferences, written instructions and requests from the Associate Superintendent - Supporting Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prepares the Building Services annual budget and exercises
control over funds allocated; Provides support for custodial services for all school and
administrative office buildings; Administers the Building Services program for the school system
and develops standards for all school and office facilities; Recommends the purchase of custodial supplies and equipment; Works closely with Operations and Maintenance in establishing
guidelines for the division of responsibility for minor and emergency repairs; Establishes and administers schedules and procedures for
custodial care of buildings; Recommends promotions and terminations as appropriate for
custodial personnel; Provides for the conducting of training programs for all
custodial personnel; Maintains liaison with the area regional directors, school
principals and appropriate staff in the administration of the Building Services
program; Interpret Board policies and procedures to staff and recommends
to the Associate Superintendent - Support Services policies and procedures pertinent to the
operation of the unit within the division; Interpret programs to community groups throughout the County
through meetings, bulletins, newsletters, other media; Attend or conduct system-wide meetings at various levels; and Provides assistance to the
Associate Superintendent - Supporting Services as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS Considerable knowledge of public school administration; Demonstrated leadership and administrative competency; Demonstrated technical knowledge skills; Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; and Effective human relations skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with increasingly responsible experience in administration Master’s preferred; with a minimum of five (5) years of successful work experience with three (3) years supervisory experience in public or private sector operations and/ or facilities management; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees and provides guidance and directions to the unit staff.
