POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Coordinating Supervisor of Special Education Support Programs and Related Services is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for all special education support programs related, service and the non-public office.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the Director in facilitating
and monitoring revisions of administrative policies and procedures maintained
by the Department of Special Education; Collaborates with school principals
and supervisors/specialists on professional learning opportunities; Assists the Director in establishing
and modifying priorities in alignment with the Prince George’s County Public
Coherence Framework and Strategic Plan; Manages all aspects of the Office of Special
Education Support Programs & Related Services to include: speech and
language, adaptive PE, occupational therapy, physical therapy, assistive
technology, audiology, deaf hard of hearing, vision and bilingual assessments; Attends Board of Education meetings
as requested to respond to programmatic inquiries as related to the Department
of Special Education; Represents the Department of Special
Education at meetings and conferences as requested to give and receive
information; Assists the Director in preparing
responses to requests for information; interprets the support services of
Special Education to the Board, staff, parents, and community; keeps abreast of
latest research, developments, and techniques in assigned area; may serve as a
liaison with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), colleges and
universities; appropriate professional organizations, and other groups or
individuals who influence the quality or direction of the instruction program; Maintains strict fiscal
accountability and compliance through the review of financial documents and
iProcurement requests for supervisors, approves payroll and expenses via
Oracle; Prepares reports and summaries for federal,
state and local requirements; Evaluates assigned personnel in alignment with
articulated Board of Education personnel guidelines and procedures; Assists the Director of Special
Education in interviewing and hiring staff for Special Education; Serves in the absence of the Director
of Special Education when requested, communicating department initiatives and
serving as a liaison to the school system and other agency personnel; Provides oversight of the process for
the payment of private duty nursing services; Provides management and supervision
over the K-12 Child Find roles and responsibilities; Provides management and supervision
over all aspects of the Non-Public office; roles and responsibilities; and Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and skill in the professional roles,
functions, and disciplines within a school/department; Demonstrated
leadership in guiding diverse groups of people through problem-solving; Demonstrated
ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions; and Excellent
written and oral communications skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in special education or a related service field area (i.e. speech and language, occupational therapy, etc.) with five (5) years of successful teaching experience or providing related services experience required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Advanced Professional Certificate and Administrator I Certification required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees and provides guidance and direction to the office staff.
