POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Principal, the Classroom Teacher – Technology Education plans and provides opportunities for students to develop safe and appropriate skills and awareness in a wide range of traditional and contemporary technologies. The teacher provides opportunities for students to learn about the past, present and future of technology and organizes and facilitates learning activities that are action-oriented and thematically related to different technological systems such as electrical, electronics, mechanical, structural, bio, thermal, fluid, optical, and mechanicaltechnologies.The teacher will assist students to develop the habits of mind necessary for them to become lifelong learners with the ability to question, investigate, design, experiment, and evaluate. The teacher provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. The teacher provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. This position monitors and evaluates student performance, develops and implements plans to improve student performance, and maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices. The teacher will deliver curriculum through an online Learning Management System (LMS).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Establishes
clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan; Plans
and prepares lessons, assignments and instructional materials; Establishes
learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum
framework, and knowledge of human growth and development; Prepares,
administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results; Selects
and uses appropriate instructional strategies including, but not limited to,
lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching
aids to present subject matter to students; Evaluates
student progress using appropriate assessment techniques; Maintains
order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes
all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and
facilities; Creates
a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning
process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives; Counsels
students when academic and adjustment problems arise; Confers
with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; Arranges
and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary;
Maintains
accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and
Administrative Procedures; Monitors
appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities; Attends
and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input
regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives and methods; Improves
skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in
instructional techniques, technology, multi-cultural content, problem solving
and interdisciplinary connections; Participates
in continuous school improvement activities and attends professional
development and training related to Technology Education courses and
methodologies, staying abreast of current research; Plans
and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessional educators, student
teachers, and volunteers; and Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Ability to complete curriculum training and ongoing professional
development for any course(s) assigned to teach; Ability to complete the International Technology Engineering
Educators Associations (ITEEA) training for online curriculum platform and an
ability to take part in ongoing professional development for any course(s)
assigned to teach; Knowledge of Maryland Technology Education Standards, Standards
for Technological and Engineering Literacy (STEL), and Standards for
Technological Literacy and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS); Ability to design STEM project-based, problem-based and
challenged-based activities including the integration of interdisciplinary
components; Knowledge of the Engineering Design Process, nine Core Technologies,
Simple Machines, 3D CAD mechanical drawing software and 3D printing; Knowledge of the safe use of tools, machines, and specialized
equipment such as common household tools, cordless drill, etc.; Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives,
curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of
instruction in field of specialization; Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning
process; Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives
and multicultural education; Ability to infuse technology into curriculum as well as utilize an
online learning management system for instructional planning and instructional
delivery; Ability to work effectively with students, parents,
administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and Excellent oral and communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree required in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university; or Bachelor’s degree not related to the career area to be taught and two (2) years of satisfactory occupational experience in the career area to be taught. Two (2) years of teaching experience in science, technology/engineering, science, math or other STEM-focused area preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education. Certification in Technology Education or endorsements in STEM or Technology Education preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees and directs the work of student teachers, paraprofessional educators and volunteers assigned to the classroom, if applicable.
