POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Partnerships Officer, the Volunteer and Community Resources Specialist works to communicate Prince George’s County Public Schools’ mission, vision, values, and goals and recruit volunteers among the business, nonprofit and faith-based community. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for leading and maintaining program operations and evaluating volunteer program effectiveness in meeting goals and objectives.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts school site visits with community partners to maintain volunteer accountability;

Coordinates system-wide volunteer projects and participation in community events designed to provide opportunities for students and staff;

Conducts system-wide in-service training on effective volunteer outreach to businesses and local communities;

Conducts surveys and opinion polls to assist the Administration in making policy determinations;

Ensures volunteer screening and background checks are completed, recorded and updated within Prince George’s County Public Schools;

Assists site-based volunteer coordinators with information regarding training workshops and in-service programs for school system volunteers;

Facilitates recruitment and deployment of volunteers and seeks the assistance and involvement of community-based organizations;

Maintains volunteer database to include verification of completed background check and fingerprinting, and provides related information to schools and organizations;

Develops opportunities and implements strategies involving community-based organizations in schools and in support of school activities;

Develops strategies and protocols for school sites to use in working with volunteers and partners;

Builds, develops, and facilitates coalitions and networks of volunteers that focus on education issues and maintains communication to sustain relationships;

Establishes and maintains volunteer orientation program;

Establishes school system presence at community showcases; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of public education, local government, community and business organizations;

Demonstrated experience and success with effective communication to groups of varying sizes from various backgrounds;

Strong analytic skills to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure;

Ability to establish, build and maintain relationships across organizational levels and functions;

Ability to develop, implement and evaluate program goals and objectives;

Ability to define and implement effective business practices;

Ability to quickly master new technology and systems;

Ability to coordinate and manage complex cross-functional projects with multiple competing priorities and/or perspectives;

Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations that require sound decision-making;

Proficiency in standard office computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, communications or a related field required. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of successful experience working in the business community or non-profit community required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
