POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Director of Community Schools, the Instructional Specialist of Community Schools is responsible for assisting assigned schools in facilitating the development, monitoring and implementation of the Community Schools Program and in communicating with appropriate stakeholders. This position will intricately assist with the administrative management of guidelines and procedures for the implementation of Community Schools within Prince George’s County Public Schools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists with development of overall objectives for Community
Schools to include: Support office and
system priorities, objectives and strategies, and implement the process and
procedures for program evaluation; Assists with the development of budgets based on an analysis of
needs and awareness of availability of resources; Assists in providing training and workshops; Reviews data gathered from needs assessments in order to
determine what resources are needed for the community schools; Develops, monitors, and evaluates performance measures and
provides a comprehensive annual report outlining all of the major
accomplishments; Collects and analyzes individual school and network level data
to highlight trends, ensure continuous improvement, make data-driven decisions
and recommendations; Negotiates with community partners and help to establish MOUs
between partners and the school system; Examines opportunities to collaborate with external partners who
can support the Community School model; Engages in collaborative planning with principals, and Community
School Coordinators; Serves as a liaison between Office of Community Schools and all
stakeholders; Attends meetings at schools, local and state agencies,
committees, conferences, and workshops to represent PGCPS and the Office of
Community Schools effectively; Conducts site visits at community schools to coach and assist school
coordinators; and Coordinates community school efforts with other PGCPS
initiatives and departments, when appropriate; and Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrate
understanding of the community school’s concept; Ability to establish and
maintain effective and professional work relationships with students, staff,
parents, school officials, community partners, universities, and outside agencies;
Ability to plan,
administer, coordinate, and evaluate a Community School Program; Demonstrate leadership
in guiding diverse groups of people through problem-solving; Exceptional
organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple requests from
schools, offices, families, and community stakeholders effectively; Demonstrate leadership
and expertise in the range of issues, programs, professional associations,
journals research, and resources relevant to Community Schools; Computer literacy including
proficiency with Microsoft Word, Google, Excel, and other computer based
products; Excellent oral and written
communication skills; and Effective human
relations and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, and five (5) years successful teaching experience.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Advanced Professional Certificate; Administration I Certificate required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position requires travel to various school and office locations within the school district to provide support and attend meetings. Additionally, there may be opportunities to attend national conferences or visit school system sites that are currently using the Community School model.
