POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE), the Coordinator - Career Support is responsible for the overall development, implementation, daily operation and evaluation of the Career Support program at the assigned school site. The incumbent of this position works with school administration, as well as counseling and teaching staff to provide career guidance and support services to place students in internship, apprenticeship and employment opportunities. The Coordinator - Career Support will work collaboratively with Career and Technical Education staff to develop relationships with employers and monitor students in a work setting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Works
directly with students on career exploration and planning; assesses the
employment needs for students, particularly 11th and 12th
grade students; serves as a resource for students; Coordinates
with school administrators, teachers and professional school counselors to
ensure that students successfully matriculate to internship, apprenticeship and
employment opportunities; Recruits,
screens, orients, enrolls and prepares students to participate in school-year,
summer and post-graduation employment with business partners; Works
directly with students on critical employability skills such as communication,
job searching, resume writing, social media presence, interviewing techniques
and presentation skills; refers students needing workplace, social or academic
help to appropriate service providers; Collaborates
with the Career and Technical Education staff on the expansion of meaningful
business partnerships; promotes better overall understanding and working
relationships between the school and business community; Conducts
surveys and focus groups to support the alignment of students with the
appropriate internship, apprenticeship or employment opportunity; Serves
as a liaison between the school and business partner to ensure positive experiences
for the student and the employer; coordinates with employers and troubleshoots
workplace problems; Communicates
with parents as necessary to support student internship, apprenticeship and employment
efforts; Provides
administrative and organizational support for the program, as well as
representation and presentations for community outreach and engagement
activities, including, but not limited to, community events, parent teacher
organization meetings, and school and district sponsored events; Facilitates
timecard collection and accuracy to ensure that students are compensated or, if
students are compensated by the employer, offers technical assistance when
needed; Maintains
accurate data, records and files to track the activities, achievements,
participation, progress and status of students seeking internships,
apprenticeships and employment; collects and analyzes data for analysis,
evaluation, and program improvement; and Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge
of a variety of occupations and their associated skills and terminology; Knowledge
of local and state labor regulations concerning minors; Demonstrated
experience in workforce development and connecting job-seekers with employers; Ability
to collaborate with students, school system personnel and business partners; strong
interpersonal and human relations skills; Excellent
organizational and record keeping skills; ability to maintain and analyze data
to support the program and drive program effectiveness; Advanced
computer skills; expertise with Microsoft Office and web applications; and, Strong
written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and listening
skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, human resources, management or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working in the private, government or not-for-profit sectors required. One year of experience working in a school-based setting preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
