POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Director of Specialty Programs & The Arts, the Coordinating Supervisor - Specialty Programs will be responsible for providing assistance to the Director with administration, supervision, and coordination of services in all the specialty programs in the department. This will include the mission of guiding, assisting and supporting the supervisors with program proficiency; personal and interpersonal relationships with stakeholders; and program branding and management. The incumbent will also assist the Director with supervision of specialty program staff (supervisors and specialists); and provide leadership to the staff in planning responsive improvements within the program according to the systemic definition and the strategy plan along with the given goals and milestones. The Coordinating Supervisor will work on special projects as assigned by the Director. The incumbent will also develop and deliver presentations to the Board of Education and participate in frequent dialogue with community members, state officials, and media representatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates with specialty program supervisors/specialists
on professional development needs; Facilitates with specialty
programs to secure budgets and grants that will benefit the initiatives and
programs offered by the department; Attends Board of
Education meetings as requested to respond to programmatic inquiries as related
to specialty programs; Represents specialty programs
at meetings and conferences as requested to give and receive information along
with establishing
collaborative relationships with other offices and agencies in Prince Georges County
Public Schools and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) that support
the mission of the department; Writes and disseminates
communication documents including newsletters, brochures, compilation reports,
internal and external memoranda, surveys, profiles, evaluations, and concept papers; Maintains strict fiscal
accountability through the review of financial documents and iProcurement
requests for supervisors, and approves payroll; Participates in the selection
and evaluation process for department staff; provides the necessary administrative
and supervisory functions for appropriate leadership of the department staff; Collects and utilizes data to
inform departmental decisions and monitors plans for interventions and
adjustments; Manages project and prepares
reports required by the Director, when requested,
to informational requests by other school system offices and outside
organizations; Serves in the absence
of the Director when requested, communicating department
directives and serving as a liaison to the school system and other agency
personnel; and Performs other duties
as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Experience as a specialist,
supervisor, curriculum coordinator, and/or principal; Experience providing
leadership in designing, planning, and implementing instructional programs
and/or systemic initiatives; Experience in writing and
managing grants; Thorough knowledge of the
instructional programs in PGCPS; Thorough knowledge of
educational theory, research-based best practices, National Standards, and
Maryland College and Career Ready Standards; Ability to support the
department's vision and the systemic Theory of Change, promote open communication,
and collaborative problem-based best practices, National Standards, and
Maryland State College and Career Ready Standards; Ability to increase
responsibility and leadership in the position; to prioritize and manage
multiple tasks in a complex school system; and wide range of varied experiences
across school systems and secondary education institutes; Ability to collect, analyze,
and use data to plan for reform across all content areas; Ability to use system
thinking to establish clear goals for the development of curriculum,
instruction and programs that will strengthen rigorous literacy instruction
district-wide; Ability to plan alignment of
literacy outcomes with the systemic outcomes; Knowledge of school
improvement planning process; Knowledge of employee
evaluation requirements; Knowledge of innovative and
creative teaching with demonstrated ability to conceptualize ideas; lead and
evaluate large projects; Excellent interpersonal
skills built on communication and collaboration; and Possess excellent writing,
project management, computer and technology skills necessary for producing
comprehensive reports and making presentations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or institution in curriculum and/or administration or other relevant field required. A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory position, and five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Holds an Advanced Professional Certificate; Holds Administrator I Certification.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees and provides guidance and direction to the unit staff.
