High Point High School Senior Desires Better Life for Self and Family

Karla Ramirez-Mejia’s journey is one of great hardship, but also one of great success.

Using her experience with socio-economic struggles, which left her stressed and hungry, as a drive to change her circumstance, she was able to see education as a way to better her family’s situation.

Karla knew that education would give her the freedom of a better future; she contributes her success to having an active support system, people who helped her through this process and helped her dedicate her time to changing her future. She was driven by a desire to experience a better life for her family.

Karla overcame the obstacles, and focused on her academics, earning acceptance into multiple colleges. Karla’s drive and focus gave her the ability to choose where the next phase of her journey will take place.

With scholarship money in hand, Karla will attend Marymount University in the fall, pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
