    Business Management and Finance

    Overview

    The Business and Finance Program provides courses to prepare high school students for employment and advancement in the business industry. Students learn the basics of entrepreneurship, the foundations of business, finance, accounting, communications, technology, and Microsoft Office tools. They learn about various financial analysis strategies and the methods by which businesses raise capital.


    Programs of Study
    The Business and Finance Program features the following four programs of study:

    Accounting  
    The Accounting Program provides students with a comprehensive study and an application of accounting principles used in a wide range of business situations. The extended use of technology is an essential component of this program. Topics explored include the accounting cycle, accounting for assets, liabilities and equity, understanding business information, special accounting systems, and accounting for business decisions. Recommended Electives: Advanced Placement Economics, Business Economics, Business Law, Information Processing.

    Business Administrative Services
    Students begin the program with courses in Business Communications and Computer Software Applications. The final two courses in the program focus on Administrative Services and prepare students for college-level programs. Graduates may also earn technical certification by taking basic and expert levels of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam. Also with the skills learned, students can do secretary, office manager and bookkeeper positions. Recommended Electives: Advanced Placement Economics, Business Economics, Business Law, Information Processing

    Business Management  
    Business Management professionals assume a broad range of responsibilities involving interpersonal activities, decision making, communication, and teamwork. This comprehensive program includes Business Management, and Accounting courses. Emphasis is placed on developing leadership qualities, management strategies, critical thinking skills, and effective communication skills. Recommended Electives: Advanced Placement Economics, Business Economics, Business Law, Information Processing.

    Finance  
    The Finance program of study is a member of the National Academy Foundation. This program prepares students for post-secondary education, not only in finance-related majors, but also for any concentrated program requiring a strong foundation in Business, Social Studies, Math, and Language Arts. Students may complete a college-level course through dual enrollment, and participate in an internship in the summer or fall of their senior year.
    Recommended Electives: Advanced Placement Economics, Business Economics, Business Law, Information Processing.

    3DE  
    3DE re-engineers education to create engaging learning environments that reflect the world in which we live and will empower students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to unlock greater economic opportunity. This instructional model breaks free from the traditional classroom structure to bring real-world connectivity into the everyday academic experience. Utilizing Case Methodology, students are taught in a manner that increases engagement, strengthens comprehension, builds critical thinking, and accelerates academic performance. The result is a high school experience that reflects the dynamic pace of activity and interconnectedness of life beyond the classroom walls. This is education for every dimension of life.

    Business Marketing
    The Marketing pathway is in partnership with Junior Achievement and local/national businesses to create a Three-Dimensional Education model. The 3DE model is an exciting and innovative learning experience that designs education for students to make real-world connections through project-based lessons and collaborative activities. In the Marketing pathway students learn about the consumer’s role, researching global markets, developing marketing plans, as well as the importance of ethical and social responsibility. Students may earn college credit through articulation agreements, dual enrollment, or by passing the Principles of Marketing CLEP exam.  Students are encouraged to participate in an internship and earn industry-recognized certification by passing the A*S*K Fundamental Marketing Concepts exam.

    Required Electives:  Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy in 9th grade.

    Recommended Electives: Advanced Placement Economics, Business Economics, Business Law, Information Processing.
