Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), located just outside of Washington D.C., is one of the nation’s 20 largest school districts and the second largest district in Maryland.  For more about PGCPS, please see our district’s “About PGCPS” web page.

Within PGCPS, the Office of Psychological Services employs school psychologists at the doctoral and specialist levels.  All school psychologists in Maryland are certified through the Maryland State Department of Education, and many on our staff hold their Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential, are licensed through the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychology, and/or are credentialed through the American Board of School Neuropsychology.

The mission of PGCPS’s Office of Psychological Services is to promote educationally sound and psychologically healthy environments for all children and youth by implementing research-based effective programs that prevent problems, enhance independence, and promote optimal learning. This is accomplished through state-of-the-art research and training, advocacy, ongoing program evaluation, and caring professional service.

School Psychologists in Prince George’s County engage in a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Completing psychological evaluations to assist with determining student eligibility for special education and Section 504 Plan accommodations
  • Providing individual and group counseling, including crisis intervention and response
  • Participating as members of interdisciplinary school teams that support a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) or “response to intervention” (RTI)
  • Assisting school teams with functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans (FBA/BIP)
  • Providing consultation and workshops for school staff, families, and the community about child development, learning, and mental and behavioral health
