    How to request a student transfer

    PGCPS SY2021 Summer Student Transfer Window:  August 5 (12:01 a.m.) - August 25 (11:59 p.m.), 2020

    PGCPS will accept student transfer requests for the 2020-2021 school year from August 5 (12:01 a.m.) through August 25 (11:59 p.m.), 2020 for students new to PGCPS. Parents and guardians of students newly enrolled at a PGCPS school can register and submit transfer requests electronically through the SchoolMax Family Portal. Portal access is limited to parents and legal guardians with an active SchoolMax Family Portal account (username and password).

    Decision letters will be forwarded to the email address linked to the SchoolMax Family Portal account (username). The Office of Student Records, Transfer and Archival Services can not be held responsible for delivery of decision letters to any other email address.     What You Need to Know

    • Student transfer requests are limited to newly enrolled students ONLY (enrolled after March 16, 2020).

    • Current parents/legal guardians must submit transfer requests through the SchoolMax Family Portal

    • Transfer requests to schools with enrollment that exceeds state-rated capacity, will not be considered. View list of schools accepting transfers.

    • Student transfer cannot be granted to lottery based schools, specialty programs or private schools transfers are not handled through our office.

    • Contact the Early Learning Program Office at 301-808-8240 on Mondays and Wednesdays for Pre-Kindergarten Comprehensive Programs students.

    • Contact the Early Childhood Special Education at 301-925-1985 on Mondays and Wednesdays for Pre-Kindergarten Early Childhood Center (ECC) Special Education students.

    • Bus transportation is not provided for transfer students.

    How to Submit a Transfer Request

    Parents/guardians who would like to transfer their child from their neighborhood school to another PGCPS school may submit a transfer request during the open student transfer season (August 5 - 25, 2020).  

    How to Submit a Transfer Request – Currently Enrolled Students 

    1. Set up a SchoolMax Family Portal user account (click here)

    2. Once successfully logged in, select "External System Access" in the upper right hand corner of the page.

    3. Your student must continue to attend the current school until you receive official notification that your transfer request has been approved.
